Answer : When the darkness of the untimely evening in the rainy season deepened and apprehending a natural calamity, the villagers hurriedly took shelter in their respective homes, Kadambini came out on the road. At the gate of her father-in-laws house, her heart beat became faster for once; but when she went inside, covering her face with a long veil, the gate men, considering her a maid servant, did not stop her.

2. Make a précis in your own words of the following passage about one third of its length and add a suitable title.

A man of polite imagination is let into a great many pleasures that the vulgar are not capable of receiving. He can converse with a picture, and find an agreeable companion in a statue. He meets with a secret refreshment in a description, and often feels a great satisfaction in the prospects of fields and meadows than another does in their possession. It gives him indeed a kind of property in everything he sees, and makes the most rude, uncultivated parts of nature administer to his pleasure so that he looks upon the whole world, as it were, in another light, and discovers in it a multitude of charms that conceal themselves from the generally of mankind.

Answer :

The pleasure of imagination

A highly imaginative man enjoys many special pleasures. He delights in fields and meadows as much as another does in owning them. His strong imagination clothes the world with many particular charms which ordinary people cannot appreciate.

“Campaign against Polio” - camp at Amta
By a Staff Reporter

Amta, 18th April 2020 : To create awareness among the people about the dangers of polio attack ,a campaign against polio  was organized at the Sarat Sadan Hall here at 4p.m. yesterday by the Lions Club of Amta. The Secretary of Amta Lions Club, Dr. A. Roy, inaugurated the camp in which a team of doctors, social workers and prominent citizens were the main participants.

Dr. Roy said that polio or poliomyelitis is caused by the poliovirus which spreads from person to person and can infect a person’s spinal cord causing paralysis. In areas with poor sanitization, the virus easily spreads from feces into the water supply ,or, by touch, into food. Mrs Nikita Jain, a prominent social activist , stressed the need for creation of awareness, particularly among the rural areas wherein many parents are often unwilling to take their children to any polio immunization camp. Dr. Soumitra Biswas, a noted paediatrician, also stressed on need for creation of awareness and opined that the curse of polio can be eradicated from India with the timely administration of oral polio doses and proper medication.

The camp got overwhelming response from the participants and a large number of children were administered polio doses at the camp.
